This Week’s Sign of the Apocalypse: Most young Republicans Support Legalizing Pot

Popular culture tends to drill into the minds of the young that marijuana is virtually harmless.  Thus, I wasn’t surprised to see that the Pew Research Center has reported that 63% of  millennial Republicans support the legalization of the drug.

The Hill reported in Tuesday’s edition that Millenials, people born after 1981, are driving the trend, and support the use of Pot in much higher use than their elders.

Personally, I think public school has a lot to do with it, too, but that’s another blog post.

The Pew study also found that millenial Republicans do not support Pot’s legalization in as high numbers as do their Democratic and Libertarian peers.  Additionally, many libertarian Republicans are big supporters of de-crimilizing this and other illicit drugs.

There is a reason why these drugs are illegal.  People who believe regular use is harmless, have been smoking, well, too much pot.

Doctors say that “smoking pot can increase your heart rate by as much as two times for up to 3 hours. That’s why some people have a heart attack right after they use marijuana. It can increase bleeding, lower blood pressure, and affect your blood sugar, too.

Web MD reports

Other physical effects of marijuana include:

  • Dizziness
  • Shallow breathing
  • Red eyes and dilated pupils
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased appetite
  • Slowed reaction time (If you drive after using marijuana, your risk of being in a car accident more than doubles.)

If you’re a long-time user, you can have physical withdrawal symptoms — like cravings, irritability, sleeplessness, and less appetite — when you stop.”

A Saudi Arabian blogger, previously sentanced to 1,000 lashes, may now get the Death Penalty.  Why?  For speaking out against Islam and his country’s clerics.

Raif Badawi, may undergo a new trial for “apostasy” which has been widely critized in international circles, reported the UK’s Independent.

Currently sentenced to ten years prison, and sentenced to 1,000 lashes, Badawi was to receive 50 lashes per week.  However, he has received the lashings once, and all others have been suspended.

Originally charged of apostasy in 2013, Badawi’s case was dismissed because he convinced the court that he was a Muslim.  His wife, Ensaf Haidar, told media that he was originally arrested because he pressed a “like” button on Facebook for Arab Christians.

Haidar said that the new charges are based on blog postings Badawi wrote that critcise the nation’s clerics..

AT&T: Net Neutrality – More Government Regulations

In Tuesday’s State of the Union speech, President Obama will focus on the so-called Net Neutrality.  ATT has released a statement agreeing with conservatives that Net Neutrality is simply his plan for the government to regulate the Internet.

Jim Cicconi, senior executive vice president of external and legislative affairs called any regulation of the Internet a “mistake to the Internet and the U.S. and national interests.  He added that’s it’s a “complete reversal of the bipartisanship relationship that has been in place since the  Clinton administration.

Obama’s Plan for America: Repeal and Replace

Bye Bye Private Sector!
Bye Bye Private Sector!

With Tuesday’s State of the Union speech looming and with threats of higher taxes, small government writer Seton Motley stated that he

“believe(s)in the Yellow Pages Rule: If you can find it in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn’t be doing it.”

Motley wrote in The Daily Caller, Tuesday that

“just before the 2008 election, soon-to-be-President Barack Obama proudly proclaimed, “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”  His transformational aim?  To by any means necessary repeal the private sector – and replace it with government. “

“ObamaCare is an excellent example.  The law’s architect is accidental-video-star Jonathan Gruber – who acknowledges the heads-government-wins-tails-we-lose nature of the law.  In 2012 Gruber said if ObamaCare was not successful at controlling costs “we’ll have to revisit single-payer” – i.e. government-only health care.  And in 2014 he said “if you like single-payer then ObamaCare has to succeed.”  No matter what, we all get government.

Please read the rest of Motley’s piece at the Daily Caller, here.  It’s too good of a preview to miss.  He goes on to compare Obama to Hugo Chavez.

Also in the speech tonight, The President will discuss the so-called “Net Neutrality” proposal.  The NC Beagle will have more on this in a later post today.  Look for it.

Seton Motley is a consultant and the founder and president of Less Government, an organization dedicated to, well, less government. He is editor-in-chief of StopNetRegulation.org, a Center for Individual Freedom project. He’s a friend of this blog and an expert in his field.

Keystone Pipeline: Probably Not Veto Proof

Keystone Pipeline: Not enough votes to prevent an override to an Obama veto.
Keystone Pipeline: Not enough votes to prevent an override to an Obama veto.

The Hill reported Thursday afternoon that the Keystone Pipeline legislation is probably not going to be veto proof.  They state that the  U.S. Senate is expected to fall short of the 67 votes needed to override President Obama’s veto.

As of Thursday, 63 Senators are expected to vote in favor of the pipeline.  That’s every GOP Senator plus nine Democrats.

Former John Edwards Aide Charged with DWI

John Edwards photo looks sad
Disgraced former US Senator, John Edwards, leaves court.

The Raleigh News and Observer is reporting today that former aide to John Edwards (D-NC), Andrew Young, has been charged in Raleigh with a DWI.  The book is entitled The Politician: An Insider’s Account of John Edward’s Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal The Brought Him Down.

This is sad news for the man who wrote in his book, that he was “sucked in” by the John Edwards charisma and was a mere victim.

Edwards however, is a bit of a different story.  The former one-term United States Senator rose to fame after winning a seven-figure lawsuit for a little girl who was injured in a swimming pool.

He bankrolled his way to the United States Senate, and was later nominated for vice president. He then ran for the primary for president in 2008.  He later became the butt of national jokes after his personal life was revealed.

Edwards’ life is still on trial, in one form or another, today.

Andrew Young was his personal aide who hid Edwards’ mistress, their daughter and their sex tape.

It’s Beagle Time!

beagle-white-face Hi and welcome to North Carolina Beagle, a conservative watchdog blog.

I’m Katy, the founder and main writer and I plan on continuing much of the work I did while writing Katy’s Conservative Corner (KCC). For the better part of 16 years, that was my baby and I was the first statewide blogger in North Carolina.  Fellow activist, Frank Williams, had started NC Republican Roundtable, but it wasn’t quite a blog and it wasn’t quite statewide.  But thanks to him, I got the idea and the blog took off.

Today, there are many imitators and there are a few excellent blogs.  There are also groups that have moved in to fill the niche.  I appreciate the NC Civitas Institute, NC Americans for Prosperity, the John Locke Foundation and others for doing the heavy lifting (research) and sharing it with we bloggers and activists.

After a two-year hiatus, it was time to make a return.  I also felt it was time for a name and look change and I enlisted Michael Savage and his company, Red Metal Box.

They did a fantastic job for a great price! I highly recommend them as I’ve used him on several other sites that I currently run or have run.

I make no money on this blog and probably never will.  It will be nothing but expenditures, so at times, I’ll have to curtail my travel when financial circumstances call for it.

ncgop_logo_reddf7691763d7dI hated missing this weekend’s NC Republican Party convention.  It’s usually a must-attend and for personal reasons, I couldn’t go.  But, wait until next year…

I’m also a regular at CPAC and at the Americans for Prosperity events, both statewide and nationally.  I’m also active in Smart Girl Politics.

As a proud mom, wife, and beagle owner, I’m excited to be here again.  I’m also a DJ so I  keep busy.

Subscribe to our updates and you’ll never have to check back here again.
